Sione and Joe, these two crazy cats got married on the side of a hill in outback Burra S.A. Surrounded by their tight-knit community of friends and family they said their vows staring into each others eyes with the most intense real love which resonated in their whole day. For people I'd never met, they sure felt like old friends.
Any advice for those couples planning their wedding now?
"Think about what you need, not what others are suggesting you need. At the end of the day, it’s your day and only you will be happy with how it looks and runs. Do the planning together, bride, just every now and then. Ask the groom what he thinks, because deep down, they want to help too." - Sione
What did you like most about working with Smarty Pants Photography?
Omg, where do we start!!! Bec, was amazing! The moment she walked in on the Friday, she just slotted into our crazy group so easily! On the day, if she wasn’t talking to me, I didn’t even know she was there taking photos. She went off and took amazing photos of our rings, shoes, gowns etc (which I had no idea she had done) I just loved that Bec is so comfortable to be around. Her photos are just outstanding and exceeded our expectations.
What was the biggest surprise on your wedding day?
My Eldest Sister, BillieJai, was helping me into my wedding dress, just us two. And she told me she was 8 weeks pregnant. The photos tell the story! Lol
What was your most anticipated part of the day?
Our First Look! It was so personal. Our emotions were so raw & you can see that in our photos.
Were you nervous? How did you squash the nerves?
Joe had sent Me a message asking if I was nervous around 3:30pm. I unfortunately didn’t have my phone on me to reply and say that I was coming and there was nothing to be worried about. Joe hates public speaking so he was more nervous about saying our vows than anything and getting it wrong.
Tell me about some of your favourite wedding details and how you came up with them!
Our photos, were in scrub land just east of Burra. The settings were just amazing. A few Sunday drives with beers in tow, and the locations were set!!
Did anything unexpected happen? What was the outcome?
The Groom & Best-Man hitting an emu 30mins before the ceremony. And trying to euthanase it ‘humanly’ in their suits! What a laugh now but at the time, hell, the bride was not impressed
What advice would you give to future couples for their wedding?
Don’t over think the day, and just go with it, enjoy it! It goes so quickly so just slow down and savour those personal and intimate moments with your new husband/wife. Make sure they have a capable ‘go to’ person, so if something does go wrong, a quick phone call and it’s sorted without worry.
What song did you walk down the aisle to?
Acoustic Version of Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran
What ended up being your favourite part of the day?
Oh it would have to be the circle work in the cruiser. You couldn’t wipe the smile off Joes face, it was the most relaxed I had seen him for a few weeks. It was a great chance for some fantastic photos and to unwind before the reception. Also, my brother walking me down the aisle. Just before we got out of the car, he gave me a horse shoe nail with a whip cracker & a leather plait that my Dad had made. He pinned it to my bouquet so he was walking with us. Casey also had on Dads hat, cuff links (that he wore when he gave my eldest sister away), and Dad’s ring. It was like my dad was right there with us, when we knew he couldn’t be.
How did you feel at the end of the day?
Exhausted but absolutely ecstatic that we were finally Mr and Mrs.
What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?
For Sione to have the Eglinton name like Joe & Bobbi.
What was your wedding inspiration? Theme, Decor, Design, etc.
Low-Key and inexpensive was our theme. People can get pretty carried away with the hiring and buying of things that just aren’t necessary. We begged and borrowed and used locals businesses to keep it low key. We had two long rows of tables with a buffet styled dinner. With wooden pews and antique chairs for our guests, with a few wine barrels around the bar section. One long strip of Olive branches and fairy lights along the crisp white table cloths, with tulle drooped from the ceiling, enclosing the venue to be mood lit by fairy lights.
